Victim's Daughter Testifies in Attempted Murder Re-Trial
The daughter of an attempted murder victim has testified in the re-trial of the Galesburg man accused of inflicting that harm.

The victim's daughter -- now 15 -- was 11 when her mother was allegedly beaten and repeatedly raped by 41-year old Jerry Mabry in mid-June of 2004. She testified Tuesday that she had spent the night of June 13th at a family friend's home on Lincoln Street, and woke the next morning to return to her Mulberry Street home to get a change of clothes. The girl says when she got to the house, she immediately noticed that the front door was unlocked, something she says her mom never lets happen. The girl entered the home, noticed blood -- she says -- everywhere, went next door, and police were called.

The girl also said she had heard Mabry threaten to kill her mother at least twice before the alleged assault, leaving her scared.

During cross-examination, Mabry -- representing himself -- questioned how the girl could remember many details of the incident, but would dodge other questions.

The girl says she still has nightmares about the incident.

The daughter is the second witness to testify Tuesday, and was the only witness not a Galesburg Police officer to testify on day one.

The trial continues Wednesday at 9am at the Knox County Courthouse.
