UNICEF Donation Campaign About to Begin
Soon to be seen on your street: Children carrying little orange boxes. "Trick or Treat for UNICEF!" is a familiar sound this time of year.

UNICEF, the United Nations Children's Fund, has been collecting donations -- mostly coins dropped in orange cardboard boxes carried by trick-or-treaters on Halloween -- since 1950. Jessica Dolan of the UNICEF Chicago office says it's an important campaign, providing money to end the "completely preventable causes" that kill 25,000 children every day due to measles, malaria, HIV-AIDS and dirty water. "UNICEF believes that this number is unacceptable, and we believe that we can get that number to zero," she said.

$200,000 was collected in Illinois last year, part of the $144 million collected in the U.S. since 1950.

Most kids who participate do so through their school, but if their school isn't involved and they want to take part, they can CLICK HERE.
