Eary Voting Numbers Thrill State Officials
If you've voted early in Illinois, you're not alone. Records for both voter registration and early voting -- which isn't even over yet -- have both been beaten, and
State Board of Elections executive director Dan White calls it "an overwhelming and an amazing response."

The state's number of total registered voters has now topped 7.7 million. That exceeds the previous record of nearly 7.5 million in 2004. The grace period for voter registration ended Wednesday.

As for early voting, 180,000 people have taken advantage of the opportunity. "At the primary election, we had a little less than 8,000 people who took advantage of the grace period and voting," White said. "Amazing!"

The deadline for early voting is Oct. 30.
