Nurse Who Treated Victim Testified in Attempted Murder Re-Trial
A nurse who helped treat a now-former Galesburg woman who allegedly was beaten and repeatedly raped by a man who wanted a relationship with her took the witness stand in the man's re-trial Wednesday.

41-year old Jerry Mabry is representing himself in his re-trial on charges of Attempted First-Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault, and Unlawful Restraint.

Amy Whiteside was, at one time, an emergency room nurse at the local hospital where the victim was taken following the June 14th attack at her Mulberry Street home, and testified that the injuries she observed on the victim included, "major trauma" to the woman's face, swelling on her neck after allegedly being choked with a telephone cord, and bruises in, "so many places."

Whiteside said as part of her effort to assess the injuries, she asked the victim what happened, at which time she claimed Mabry committed the attack, and threatened to kill her. Under cross-examination, Mabry asked Whiteside why didn’t she talked to Mabry about the attack, answering that she's not a police officer.

And, when asked about not being able to make a determination as to the truthfulness of the accusations, Whiteside said, "It's not my job to investigate."

Testimony is scheduled to continue Thursday at 9am at the Knox County Courthouse.
