Founder of G & M Distributors Dies in Arizona
A former Galesburg man who founded a successful business in the city has died in Arizona.

G. Louis Vitale passed away Thursday in Scottsdale. He was 95.

Vitale founded G & M Distributors, Inc. of Galesburg in 1946, and formerly owned businesses in Rock Island, Peoria, Decatur and several other cities. He graduated from Knox College and remained an avid supporter of the school. Vitale was a recipient of the Lincoln-Douglas Award, which recognized his contributions to Knox.

Vitale also served on the board of directors for Galesburg Cottage Hospital and First Midwest Bank, and was a founding member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church.

He is survived by his wife Betty, four children, three step-children, 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
