Feds Bust East Galesburg Man on Child Porn Charges
Federal officials are releasing details about the arrest of an East Galesburg man two weeks ago, on charges accusing him of possessing child pornography.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Central District of Illinois says 38-year old Mark Hathaway was arrested on a criminal complaint October seventh, but a federal grand jury Wednesday indicted him on charges of Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography.

Officials say Hathaway was arrested after allegedly having a series of internet chats with an undercover investigator from the Lexington County, South Carolina Sheriffs Department posing as a 12-year-old girl between last November and this past March, and that he allegedly distributed child pornography last March 13th but possessed it from then through October sixth.

They say a search of the home by East Galesburg Police, Knox County Sheriffs Deputies, and federal officials from the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force turned up a computer with images and videos of child porn on it.

A federal magistrate judge has ordered Hathaway held in the custody of U.S. Marshals pending arraignment and the scheduling of a trial.

Hathaway could face as much as 30-years in prison if he's found guilty in court.
