Callahan Campaign Ad Draws LaHood's Ire
A television campaign ad for a candidate for Congress in the 18th District is getting bad reviews from one of the subjects of the ad -- the man she's looking to replace.

Colleen Callahan -- running against Aaron Schock in the November election for a seat in Congress from a district which covers part of Knox County -- is hitting the airwaves with a television ad that references two well-known Peoria-area politicians, one of whom worked for the other for a time.

"Our district's been blessed with Congressmen of the highest integrity in Bob Michel and Ray LaHood. That's the standard of public service I'll try to meet if you give me the honor to serve you in Congress," Callahan said in the TV ad.

LaHood is retiring from the seat, and worked for Michel before he retired.

Schock says Callahan shouldn't use the ad, because neither LaHood nor Michel are supporting her. "I think it's important for the voters to know that despite what's being said in the ad, that both Congressman LaHood and Congressman Michel, if they had their way, would like their tradition of excellence in this district carried on by myself," Schock said.

LaHood says he wants the ad cancelled -- not only because of his name being referenced, but because it mis-references Schock's 2001 incident where he allegedly notarized a back-dated document for his father.

A Callahan spokesperson the ad won't be cancelled, because there's nothing wrong with it.
