Deputy City Clerk Attends Academy
The 2008 Municipal Clerks of Illinois Academy was held October 15-17, 2008 at the Springfield Hilton, Springfield, Illinois.

Kelli Bennewitz, Deputy City Clerk for the City of Galesburg, was one of more than 90 participants. This is Bennewitz's second year at attending the MCI Academy. Previously, she attended three years of the Municipal Clerks of Illinois Institute, graduating with her Registered Municipal Clerk designation in 2007.

The Academy provides the opportunity for clerks who have already earned the Certified Municipal Clerk designation to continue their education and earn points toward membership in the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC) Master Municipal Clerk group. This three-day residential program allows participants to refresh and expand their knowledge base in areas relevant to municipal government. The Academy was presented through the combined efforts of the Institute of Government and Public Affairs and the Office of Continuing Education at the University of Illinois. This year's program provided opportunities to learn more about communications, public leadership, parliamentary procedure, ethics, and new legislation.
