Hare: Expand Financial Recovery to Help More People
The Congressman representing most of Knox County and a good portion of the rest of the immediate area says he doesn't expect the nation's financial system to right itself quickly.

17th District Democrat Phil Hare voted for that $700 billion financial recovery plan, but says the federal government and the states will have to do more.

Hare says he thinks the financial meltdown won't get significantly better until Congress does more to help out people who are losing their homes. "We've really got to focus on these foreclosures that are pending," Hare said. "We have almost two million people ready to go into foreclosure when we enacted this (bailout) bill, and we really have to be mindful that throwing these out on the street is not exactly going to help our economy out."

Hare says another economic stimulus plan is a good option, as long as it gives more taxpayers more of their money back.

The Galesburg native says Illinois has to pass a Capital spending bill that creates jobs, and other state legislatures have to come up with similar plans, in order to do something about the 750-thousand jobs already lost this year in the U.S.
