Knox County Sheriffs Candidates Outline Plans if Elected
The two candidates for a full term as Knox County Sheriff didn't disagree on much during a forum hosted by the local labor unions Thursday night.

The Galesburg Trades and Labor Assembly hosted the candidates forum, featuring a number of incumbent Knox County office holders, including current Sheriff David Clague and his opponent, retired deputy Gary Ryner.

Clague, who replaced Jim Thompson, says he wants to continue to try and combat an ever-present problem in Knox County...drugs. "Probably 80% of the crime in Knox County, or any county throughout the country, is somehow related to narcotics," Clague said, "whether it's the domestic batteries, the theft, armed robbery, it's related to narcotics. I believe most citizens would agree that illicit drugs are a big concern, in that there's a link between drugs and other activities."

Ryner agrees, and thinks he has a solution. "We have a terrible drug problem, as most communities do today," Ryner said. "As a former DARE officer, and I was also a certified crime prevention officer, I understand how important education is to our children, and how we need neighborhoods to work together to reduce crime."

Ryner says, as can be expected, his overall goal is to try and reduce crime in Knox County, while Clague wants to continue to look at ways to save the county's residents money while providing them the best protection possible.
