East Galesburg Man Arraigned on Federal Child Porn Charges
An East Galesburg man arrested earlier this month after federal officials allegedly found child pornography in his home has made a court appearance.

38-year old Mark Hathaway was arraigned Monday in U-S Federal Court in Peoria on charges of Possession and Distribution of Child Pornography. Hathaway was arrested October seventh, after an indictment claims pornographic pictures and video of young children were found in his home on West Main Street in East Galesburg.

Officials from the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force say they were first alerted to Hathaway after he had a series of internet chats between November of last year and March of this year with an undercover South Carolina Sheriffs Deputy posing as a 12-year old girl. A task force officer claims in a sworn affidavit that Hathaway said on multiple occasions he wanted to see the girl, and would allegedly perform sex acts for her on a webcam.

Hathaway, being represented by a federal public defender, pleaded not guilty according to court documents and asked for a trial by jury.

A pre-trial conference in the case is scheduled for December 5th, with a trial date of December 15th.
