Pizzas for Smoke Detectors Program Deemed Successful
A program that involved free pizzas for working smoke detectors in Galesburg homes was a successful one.

Galesburg firefighters went with delivery drivers from Happy Joe's and Pizza House on their rounds earlier this month for a five-night period, giving away smoke detectors and batteries to homes that needed them. Homes that were already protected by a working smoke detector on each level received a free pizza.

City officials say firefighters visited 62 homes this year, which was 22 more than last year. Authorities also gave out 25 smoke detectors, installed 22 of them, gave 20 batteries and covered the cost of 56 pizzas.

Officials called this year's program, which ran October 13th through the 17th, a success.
