Long-time Knox County Clerk Tabb Dies
The first woman ever elected to office in Knox County has died.

Yvonne "Vonnie" Tabb, who graduated from Galesburg High School and Brown's Business College, was also one of the first Democrats to be voted into office in the county, winning the race for Knox County Clerk in 1970. Tabb died yesterday at her home. She was 82.

Tabb was popular with the voters, who re-elected her for five straight terms as the county clerk before she retired in 1994. She also served as a delegate for Illinois at the 1980 Democratic National Convention.

Along with her public service in politics, Tabb also volunteered on behalf of several events and fundraisers and was a member of numerous service clubs and organizations. They included the Pilot Club, the Exchange Club, the Knox County Extension Council and Friends of the Galesburg Library.

A Celebration of Vonnie Tabb's life will be held Sunday at Cherry Street Restaurant from 3 to 6 p-m.
