| Weapons Charges Following Fight Thursday |
A Galesburg man is in the Knox County Jail facing multiple felony charges related to an alleged incident involving a handgun and a 17 year old woman Thursday night.
Galesburg Police arrested 21-year old Bobby Thomas on preliminary charges of aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and possession of a weapon by a felon. Police reports say officers responded to Monmouth Boulevard around 9:15pm, when a woman told authorities that a man she knows held a gun to her head at a friend's house. The report says the man with the gun, identified by the woman as Thomas, asked her why she had been talking about him.
The woman claims Thomas pulled the gun out, possibly from his waistband, and hit her on the left side of the face with it. Thomas then allegedly jammed the barrel of the gun in the front of her face.
The report says officers located Thomas driving a vehicle on Prairie Street, where they saw the front-seat passenger drop something out the window by the South Street underpass. Authorities searched the car and allegedly found a black leather case that had an empty magazine for a semi-automatic firearm inside it. Officials say they also located the weapon that was allegedly tossed out of the vehicle.
Police took Thomas into custody, and during questioning, he allegedly refused to cooperate, saying he needed coffee and a cigarette because it was his constitutional right to have those things. He's being held in the Knox County Jail pending an appearance in court. |
