More Bonds for Galesburg Water Improvements
The City of Galesburg is preparing to issue more bonds that officials say will continue to help pay for more water system improvements.

The Galesburg City Council will discuss Monday, on first reading, an ordinance that allow for the sale of an as-yet undetermined amount of bonds for the city's long-term water projects.

City officials say the ordinance as it's written now contains blanks that can't be filled in until the sale of the bonds around October 21st.

The city says the 30-year bonds are the second half of how the city will pay for improvements like the ongoing construction of the new water pumping station at Oquawka, that started with the sale of 10-million dollars worth of bonds last year.

Speaking of the Oquawka water plant, the council tonight will also consider paying the bill for $70,000 in emergency repairs needed to a key water line at the station.

Officialls say a leak in the line was first discovered back in August, at which time a backup line there was put into use until the line could be repaired, somewhat reducing the plant's water pumping capacity.

Water rates for 2009 will also be discussed.

The Galesburg City Council meeting begins at 6 p-m with a work session on the city's downtown redevelopment strategy, followed by the regular meeting at 7:30, all at council chambers at City Hall.
