Lincoln Colloquium at Knox College Saturday
An annual series of discussions about Illinois' favorite son comes to Galesburg tomorrow (today), just in time for last week's Lincoln-Douglas Debate anniversary.

The annual Lincoln Colloquium is being held in Galesburg this year on the Knox College campus, one of several rotating sites in the state for the annual discussion and presentation of scholarly works on Lincoln.

Knox College Lincoln Studies Center Co-Director Douglas Wilson will moderate many of Saturday's discussions, and tells WGIL the great debates will be the focus during the morning sessions. "There are going to be three papers about the debates by scholars who have studies the debates," Wilson said. "One of them, Rodney Davis, has just finished doing an edition of the debates on which we worked several years. Another, Allen Guelzo, has just written a popular book on the debates, and he's a very well-informed scholar. The third one, David Zarefsky, has a very well-known book on the debate and its involvement with the theme of slavery."

Wilson says following a lunch break, the afternoon series of discussions will focus on debates in general -- their impact on American history, and the use of electioneering.

The colloquium starts at 9:30 Saturday morning on the Knox College Campus. There is a 25-dollar registration cost, and Wilson says at this point, seating is very limited.
