Illinois Rainfall Below Normal in September
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) -- Climatologists with the Illinois State Water Survey say the state saw below-normal rainfall during September.

Champaign-based state climatologist Jim Angel says September ended seven months of above-normal rainfall from February through August of this year. Preliminary data shows it rained an average of 2.4 inches in Illinois in September, 0.8 inches below normal.

According to the survey, it was drier in northern and eastern Illinois and rainfall was normal in southern and western Illinois. It was rainiest in Lawrenceville in Lawrence County in southern Illinois, where it rained 10.5 inches.

The average temperature in Illinois in September was 65.8.
