Tribune Amends Lawsuit Against U of I
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Chicago Tribune says it's trying to force the University of Illinois to reveal the names of well-connected applicants to get at the motives of those who tried to influence admissions.

The newspaper Tuesday amended a June lawsuit to include its bid to reveal the names.

The university kept the now-defunct Category I list to track well-connected applicants to the Urbana-Champaign campus.

University spokesman Tom Hardy says the school has turned over records with the names removed to comply with privacy laws.

The list and the fact that some of its members were admitted over better-qualified applicants are at the heart of a scandal that's led to the resignation of university President B. Joseph White.

The lawsuit seeks high school grade-point averages and ACT scores of Category I list members.
