Exchange Club Names Police Officer, Firefighter of the Year
The Galesburg Exchange Club recently honored two of Galesburg's 98 local uniformed officers as Officer and Firefighter of the Year.

Robert Schwartz was named Officer of the Year. He was introduced by Police Captain Lindsey May who recognized Schwartz's years of dedicated service.

Interim Fire Chief Tom Simkins presented Gary Nelson of the Galesburg Fire Department as the Firefighter of the Year. Simkins praised Nelson as a valuable member of the force and the community.

The Exchange Club has a long tradition of supporting local and national programs that help in crime and fire prevention efforts.

The Exchange Club is a group of men and women from the area who meet every Friday at noon at the Kensington to hear an informative program. They have been involved since their founding in 1924 with a variety of community service projects; it's Exchangites who pass out flags before local parades, honor a Youth-of-the-Month and Youth-of-the-Year during the school year, recognize worthy law enforcement officers, firefighters and contribute funds from the club's youth foundation to a variety of local organizations. Guests and new members are always welcome.
