Suburban Lawyer to Announce Run for Illinois Attorney General
CHICAGO (AP) -- A suburban Chicago lawyer is set to formally announce his candidacy for Illinois attorney general.

Republican Steve Kim will make the announcement Monday at an event in Chicago.

Kim is a former adviser to Gov. Jim Edgar on trade and Asian affairs. He has also worked for Time Warner Cable and AT&T Illinois and now provides legal services to corporations.

He's also been a trustee of Northfield Township.

He faces incumbent Attorney General Lisa Madigan, a race declared "virtually unwinnable" by one top Republican.

Joseph Birkett, the DuPage County state's attorney and former candidate for governor, dropped out of the race for attorney general after learning he'd have to face Madigan.
