| REPORTED FIRST ON WGIL: Police Investigate Two Early Saturday Shootings |
FIRST REPORTED 6:00am 10/10/09, UPDATED 8:50am 10/11/09 Galesburg Police say they are continuing to investigate an early Saturday morning shooting at a local bar that left at least one person injured.
Police say they were at the 21 Club on Chambers Street around 2:15am Saturday when they say they heard gunshots get fired. They say the one person injured -- a 23-year old male Knoxville resident -- ended up being transported to OSF Saint Mary Medical Center by private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his ankle. He was later transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria where his condition is not known. WGIL, as is policy, is choosing not to identify the alleged victim.
Police investigators say there were upwards of 400 people either inside or outside of the club at the time of the shooting, as the bar played host to a rap music performance. 21 Club owners have told Galesburg Police that a similar event scheduled for Saturday night, a "White T-Shirt Night," has been canceled.
About 10 minutes later, officers say they were called to the 700 block of West South Street, where eyewitnesses say they saw two males shooting at a home there. Police say the two could then be seen running toward West Tompkins Street.
Officers say it's not clear if either of the two shootings are connected, and they say police are still interviewing witnesses and suspects. No arrests have been made as of Sunday morning.
