| Carl Sandburg College Board Appoints Sundberg CSC President |
The next president of Carl Sandburg College will be the first C.S.C. graduate to hold the position.
The C.S.C. Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted unanimously to name Dr. Lori Sundberg as the sixth president of the school replacing current Tom Schmidt effective July 1st, 2010.
Sundberg is a first generation college student and currently serves as Vice President of Academic Services having begun her career at the school as an economics professor in 1995.
Sundberg tells WGIL she understands the needs of the school since she has been a student there twice before.
"The greatest benefit of Carl Sandberg College - I'm a living example of that. You can come here after high school if you want to go onto college, if you want to pursue an occupational degree, or you can come back as a non-traditional student and pursue an occupational degree then or your baccalaureate degree. It's a community college so it's for people at all stages of their lives."
Schmidt announced his intent to retire from the position in July and tells WGIL it makes him feel good to turn the reins over to someone like Sundberg
"Being able to leave a place in great stead it's very very comforting. It's just a special added ingredient in my life to be - to have been involved in Lori's development here at the institution and to have learned from her and to see her grow in this capacity it's just really special to me and I couldn't have asked for more."
The board passed hiring Sundberg to a three year contract with benefits with an annual salary of $143,000 per year.
Sundberg says each of the former presidents were able to make their own unique contributions and she hopes to do the same.
She has more than 13 years experience as an educator and administrator with the last six years at the senior administrative level.
Sundberg has experience among other things in marketing, grant writing, human resources, negotiations and academic services.
