Local Radio Legend to Receive City of Galesburg Award
A well known community leader, long-time volunteer, and friend to area youth will be honored at Monday's City Council Meeting with a proclamation presenting him with the first ever Galesburg Annual Adult Service to Youth award sponsored by the Galesburg Youth Commission.

Jack Larson was nominated by Members of Jazz Unlimited to receive the inaugural award "for his dedication to assist the youth of Galesburg in the development of a lifelong appreciation for instrumental music, by developing a program to provide instruments for youth who would not have access to an instrument to use in the music programs of Galesburg schools and Costa Catholic Academy."

In addition to the musical instrument program he founded, Larson has been involved with the FISH Food Pantry, has assisted in the Bereavement Support Group and Children's Grief Camp, has participated as a "Reading Buddy" at Nielson School, worked on Project Santa and has helped provide warm clothing for school students. Larson also volunteers with Project Shoes which provides shoes for children in need.

The award was established by the Galesburg Youth Commission to recognize adult Galesburg residents who give extra-effort in serving the youth of Galesburg through volunteering their time. It is an annual award and consideration is given to those nominated by a group or individual.

The proclamation will be presented at the October 19, 2009, City Council meeting, City Hall, 55 W. Tompkins Street, Galesburg at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited.
