Task Force To Work On Budget
The Illinois House speaker's office has formed another state government task force, this time to focus on next year's potential budget problems.

State Rep. Rich Myers (R-Colchester), who sits on the Task Force on Government Reform and Spending Accountability, says the goal of the group is to tackle next year's budget line by line, and to take some time to "dig deep" to ensure the state is spending wisely and efficiently. That way, he says lawmakers can take the task force's recommendation on more efficient spending and use it to discuss spending cuts before they consider income tax increases.

Myers says the task force is a better alternative to having several budget groups testify before an appropriations committee over the span of several hours, where there's not enough time to ask detailed questions. He says the task force will focus on next year's budget. It hopes to have a recommendation by March.
