H1N1 Clinics Coming Soon to Knox County
The Knox County Health Department announced Friday, they will begin providing the H1N1 vaccine to county residents free of charge beginning Tuesday, October 20th.

The department will hold two evening clinics on Tuesday the 20th and Wednesday the 21st from 3:30 to 7pm at the Knox County Health Department.

Knox County Health Department Administrator Heidi Britton says at this point, they only have the vaccine in mist form and future shipments, whenever they arrive, will have the vaccine in the injectable form.

The mist form of the vaccine is only for individuals who are not pregnant and who have no underlying medical conditions. The Knox County Health Department is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health and will only provide the vaccine to groups including individuals 2 to 24 years of age, individuals 25 to 49 years old who live or care for an infant younger than 6 months of age or health care or emergency personnel.

The health department says individuals who have received Flumist for the seasonal flu, are required to wait 28 days prior to receiving the H1N1 vaccine. Those who received the seasonal flu vaccine in a shot form are not required to wait.
