|Exchange Club Names Youth of the Month
|The Exchange Club of Galesburg's October Youth-of-the-Month, the first for 2009-2010, is Luke Clayton. Luke is the son of Todd and Rebecca Clayton, 546 Hackberry Rd.
Luke is a senior at Galesburg High School where he maintains a 3.5 grade point average. He is captain of the boys swim team at the high school and has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He was twice voted Scout of the year in his local troop.
Luke will be going on to college, tentatively to pursue a degree in biology or chemistry
Luke is one of six Youths-of-the-Month who will be eligible to compete for the prestigious Galesburg Exchange Club Youth-of-the-Year award which will be announced at a special banquet in April. The program honors outstanding students who have exhibited excellence in academics and leadership. As part of their recognition, winners write an essay on the topic, "Inspired by the power of community service."
The Galesburg winner goes on to compete for the Lincolnland District Youth-of-the-Year honor and potentially national recognition and increasingly larger scholarships.
The Exchange Club is a group of men and women from the area who meet every Friday at 12:07pm at the Kensington to hear an informative program. They have been involved since their founding in 1924 with a variety of community service projects; it's Exchangites who pass out flags before local parades, honor a Youth-of-the-Month and Youth-of-the-Year during the school year, recognize worthy law enforcement officers, firefighters and contribute funds from the club's youth foundation to a variety of local organizations. Guests and new members are always welcome.
