Illinois Offering Free Computer Classes
Anyone who's jobless or just wants a leg-up on the workforce can take advantage of free computer classes, now available through state government.

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has reserved 50,000 vouchers for computer classes through the Microsoft Elevate America program.

DCEO spokeswoman Marcelyn Love says the classes range from introductory word processing and spreadsheets to advanced information technology. She says not only will the classes help the state to close the digital divide, they will likely help thousands of Illinoisans find jobs, or move up the ladder.

Anyone interested must sign up for a voucher by October 31. Once a participant activates the voucher, he or she will have up to a year to complete coursework.
