Transportation Secretary to Make Galesburg Visit at Moffitt's Invitation
A local lawmaker says a well-known area native and member of President Barack Obama's cabinet will be in town in just a few days.

State Representative Don Moffitt says former Congressman and current Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will come to Galesburg Tuesday at his invitation, and will -- among other things -- speak at an invitation-only paid luncheon at Knox College, talk to students, and meet with city leaders and officials of the Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association and the National Railroad Hall of Fame.

Moffitt tells WGIL if anything, it's just a way to send appreciation to the Peoria Republican for his work on behalf of the area.

"One of the purposes is to say 'thank you' to the Secretary," Moffitt said. "When (LaHood) was a Congressman that represented part of Knox County, we had him come to Galesburg and look at the potential that's there for these improvements, these railroad improvements -- the grade separations, the additional line, the storage tracks or sightings, and he came, and he agreed that these were important projects."

Moffitt says he hopes that LaHood will be able to get updates on those projects while he's in town.

He says LaHood will get a quick tour of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe rail yards during his visit Tuesday.
