Hotel Prices Down; Travel Industry Says Treat Yourself
Fall is here and a travel expert says it's the perfect time to get away.

Nicole Hockin with the travel site www.Hotels.com says the average price of a hotel room has fallen 17 percent in the first six months of 2009 compared to the same periods in 2008. She says on average, rates in the Chicago area have dropped by roughly $40.

Hockin says hotels are also doing more to attract visitors. She says many offer food and beverage credits and price breaks for those who stay multiple days.

Hockin says look at the value and not just the price when picking a place for your next getaway.

She adds that the gap between the top-star hotel categories has narrowed, giving travelers more value.
