Durbin Says Health Care Reform Will Come Before End of the Year
As the health care debate rages in the nation's capital, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) predicts a health care reform bill on which everyone can agree will come before the end of the year.

"I think we can pass this bill before Dec. 1 and certainly before the end of the year," Durbin said in Chicago.

Asked about his colleague, U.S. Sen. Roland W. Burris (D-Ill.), and his vow to vote in favor of a health care plan only if it includes a public option, Durbin wouldn't comment.

Durbin won't say if he will vote for a health care plan without public option, but stressed to reporters that he does support a public option to keep the insurance industry honest. "The insurance industry told us...if you pass health insurance reform, let us tell you what were gonna do, we’re gonna raise premiums across America and we're gonna blame you for it," Durbin said. "And you know what? They're gonna make good on that promise. They can do it because they are exempt from the anti-trust laws."
