Galesburg City Council to Consider Wind Turbine Grant
The City of Galesburg is looking at an energy efficient way to power at least part of the city's new water treatment plant at Oquawka.

The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider allowing the city administration to apply for state-administered federal economic stimulus dollars that would partially fund a wind turbine the city wants to build at the Oquawka plant.

City officials say a one-megawatt wind turbine would help operate the motors at the new water plant.

The grant, officials say, is being administered through the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity through a renewable energy program, and those awarded the grants are eligible for either $500,000 or 50-percent of the costs of such a project.

The city says the cost of such a wind turbine could be as much as $3 million.

Aldermen Monday night will also consider a re-worked lease with Jet Air you, and will consider awarding its second facade renovation grant all during the regular meeting starting at 7:30.

But before that, the city council will hear about capital projects and a proposal to close Lake Storey Beach and turn it into a marina during another budget work session starting at five o'clock.
