City Council Considers Second Fadace Grant
As work made possible by the issuance of the City of Galesburg's first Facade Renovation Grant nears completion, the Galesburg City Council Monday night could potentially green-light the second such project.

Aldermen Monday night will consider giving nearly $20,000 in facade grant money to Dave Plunk, owner of Music Makers on East Main Street, plus an additional $7,500 in grant monies. They'll also consider giving Plunk an $80,000 revolving loan.

Documents filed with the city indicate Plunk plans on reworking Music Makers' front entrance, replace windows and doors with more energy-efficient models, expand the store's showroom and display area, and do tuckpointing and other facade and upgrading work.

All in all, the project is expected to cost Plunk $158,000. The Galesburg Downtown Council is kicking in $7,500 in grant money, and $24,000in owner equity will also be used.

Officials cut the ribbon last week to open the first business re-done with facade grant dollars: the Weaver Main Street Center, formerly the Radio Village Mall.

Aldermen Monday night will also consider a re-worked lease with Jet Air for their use of the Galesburg Municipal Airport, following the rejection of one two months ago. Jet Air says they need a new lease or they can't continue to operate in Galesburg.

The Galesburg City Council will start at 5:00 with another work session on the city budget, and then the regular meeting begins at 7:30.
