Quinn Will Reevaluate Free Bus Rides for Seniors
Gov. Pat Quinn says the state will re-evaluate free transit rides for senior citizens.

The free rides were instituted last year by then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich, as part of a transit funding package.

Quinn says they should be reconsidered, in view of the financial crunch facing the Chicago Transit Authority. He isn't sure how other transit systems around the state are dealing with the requirement. "I think we should look at every one across Illinois," he said, saying the state must have good public transportation, and the funds to pay for it.

Quinn says his commitment is to making sure senior citizens of modest means or less still have free rides, but affluent senior citizens should pay.
