Former Galesburg Public Works Director Lyman Jensen Passes Away
A longtime City of Galesburg employee that many in the community knew and loved has passed away.

Officials say former Public Works Director Lyman Jensen passed away Sunday evening at the age of 68 while at a Peoria hospital.

Jensen was employed by the City of Galesburg startiong in 1971 after working in the Colorado Department of Transportation. He started here at a Civil Engineer and was promoted to Public Works Director., where he retired in 2000. During that time though, Jensen served four different occasions as acting City Manager.

Jensen is remembered for having been behind a number of city projects in his 30 years with the city, ranging from the Farnham Street Bridge, Linwood Road, Carl Sandburg Drive, and items at the city's water treatment plant at Oquawka., among a long list of others.

Jensen also did his fair share of volunteer work, ranging from the Knox County United Way to the Galesburg-Area Chamber of Commerce Environmental Task Force.

A funeral service for Jensen will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Home in Galesburg, with a visitation there Thursday from four to eight p-m.

Lyman Jensen is survived by his wife Connie, three daughters, one son, one brother, and many grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
