'Red Carpet Series' Rolls Out Again
A popular series of performances Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre hosts every year are officially going on, even though some reports indicated awhile back they were being cancelled.

The Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday gave the green light to the theatre continuing its Red Carpet Series. Budget and ticket sales concerns forced the series to be put on hold during the fall and winter months, but Orpheum president Kate Francis says they were never cancelled.

But this time, Francis tells WGIL, the series will get a little bit more scrutiny.

"In this year, as all businesses have done, we've had to take a very critical look at our operations and expenses, and the return on investment of that program," Francis said. "The Orpheum board is willing to return to a more scaled-back program for now, next year. So we're going to be working with various acts and seeing where, at this late of date in terms of booking these groups, their availability may lie."

Francis says while it might be difficult for some acts to be booked, she says there are many that are willing to be booked whenever a date is available, and many that could stop here and perform as they travel between Chicago and St. Louis.

The Red Carpet Series will start back up in the spring and run through part of fall, with five shows anticipated during that time.
