FIRST ON WGIL: Fire Damages Home in Abingdon -- SEE PICTURES HERE
POSTED 6:58 a-m, UPDATED 8:59 a-m 10/1/9 A two-story house in Abingdon sustained major damage after a fire broke out there late Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to the home at 521 South Main Street around 11 p-m. The residence is owned by Gayle Andrews.

Witnesses say Andrews was the only person in the house when the fire broke out. She was reportedly taken to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

The rear portion of the residence appears to suffered the most significant damage. Abingdon Fire Chief Greg Schisler was unavailable Thursday morning to discuss a possible cause or provide any additional information.

Andrews has now lived in two homes in Abingdon that have burned in the past decade. The first occurred at a residence on Synder Street approximately seven years ago.
