| Knox County Health Department Has Limited H1N1 Vaccines Available on Walk-In Basis Starting Monday |
The Knox County Health Department will provide the H1N1 vaccine to County residents FREE of charge on a walk-in basis beginning on Monday, October 26, 2009 from 8:30am to 4:00pm.
The Health Department has the FluMist; or LAIV [live attenuated influenza vaccine) for persons 2 years through 24 years of age, and a LIMITED supply of H1N1 Injectable vaccine available to the public. The H1N1 Injectable vaccine is available to residents, on a first come first serve basis, who are 6 months through 23 months of age, pregnant, or who have chronic conditions such as asthma, diabetes, etc.
The Health Department is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and is vaccinating the following identified priority groups:
*Pregnant women; *People who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age; *Health care and emergency medical services personnel; *Persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age, and *People from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.
Individuals should continue to practice the 3 C's: Cover your Cough, Clean Your Hands, and Contain Germs (stay home if you are sick) while waiting for the H1N1 vaccine to become available to them.
