FIRST ON WGIL: Democratic Primary for Regional Superintendent of Schools
FIRST REPORTED 3:00pm 10/26/09 The candidate filing period just began ahead of the February primary election, but already, there's some early opposition in at least one local race.

The Knox County Clerk says that comes in the form of the race for Knox County Regional Superintendent of Schools.

Documents filed Monday morning indicate that incumbent Bonnie Harris filed her paperwork to seek another term about 20 minutes after Gay Johnson did, and both are listed as Democrats.

Johnson is a Galesburg resident, and has worked the last couple years as Curriculum and Response to Intervention Program Director in the Knoxville School District.

Harris spend three-decades teaching Kindergarten in the Galesburg School District before being elected to the R.O.E.

Other early filings include Bill Abel looking for another term on the Knox County Board in District Two, and Democrats Pamela Davidson and Tim Hasten seeking seats on the board from District three. Hasten is seeking a full term on the board, while Davidson is not currently on the board. Fellow District-three Democrat Jan Occhi is not running again.

Scott Erickson is seeking another term as County Clerk, while so far, no one is opposing him.

Candidates have until November second to file their nominating petitions for the primary in February.
