FIRST ON WGIL: Knox County Health Department Out of H1N1 Injectible Vaccine
FIRST REPORTED: 4:00pm 10/26/09 The Knox County Health Department is out of the H1N1 injectable vaccine.

Monday was the first day the Knox County Health Department was providing both the injectable or mist vaccines to those in priority groups.

Public Health Administrator for the Knox County Health Department Heidi Britton says the department currently has the vaccine only in the mist form. Britton says she anticipates the department receiving further shipments of the vaccine but it's unknown when those shipments will be in.

The department is following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Illinois Department of Public Health and is only providing the mist form of the H1N1 vaccine to priority groups at this time. The mist is approved only for individuals ages 2 through 49 who are not pregnant and have no underlying conditions such as asthma or diabetes.

Individuals who have received the seasonal flu mist are required to wait a minimum of 28 days prior to receiving the H1N1 mist vaccine. Those who received the injectable seasonal flu vaccine are not required to wait.

The Knox County Health Department is still providing the mist from of the vaccine to county residents free of charge on a walk-in basis from 8:30am to 4pm until the supply runs out.
