Railroad Hall of Fame Works With PBS Station on Documentary
The Executive Director of the National Railroad Hall of Fame says it might still be hard for some to believe -- but yes, work continues on a number of projects either involving raising funds for the Hall, or on areas related to rail history.

Julie King says one of the project she's working on could lead to a documentary. She says she's working with Peoria Public Television Station WTVP and a local couple to do a story on local railroad camps.

King tells WGIL's "Galesburg Live" when finished, the story should provide quite a bit of insight on the people who made the railroad possible.

"The families that moved here to work on the railroad, that lived in boxcars -- it's an amazing local story, a very intriguing and interesting local story, that also relates to our national development as a country," King said. "Immigrants coming here, looking for a better life -- there were railroad camps across the country. We weren't the only one, but an interesting and fascinating story."

King says the work on such a story is only in its preliminary stages, so there's no timetable yet for completion.

King and the Galesburg-Area Convention and Visitors Bureau will head to a convention of private rail car owners in Georgia next week in order to convince them to come to Galesburg and possibly, she says, contribute to the National Railroad Hall of Fame.
