| Knox County Health Department Has Limited SEASONAL FLU Vaccine |
Knox County Health Department staff have announced receipt of a very limited amount of SEASONAL influenza vaccine. The vaccine is available for all ages; including adults, and will be provided on a walk-in basis at the Health Department between the hours of 8:30am and 4:00pm.
Previously out of the vaccine used to prevent "seasonal" flu, Health Department Administrator Heidi Britton said. "The Health Department has received a small shipment of seasonal flu vaccine and will begin providing it immediately to the public on a first come first serve basis," Britton said. "At this time, information on both Seasonal and H1N1 vaccine availability is received by the Illinois Department of Public Health on a weekly basis. We are doing our best to keep the community informed when we receive shipments of the vaccine and keeping our website up to date."
It is still unclear as to when the Health Department should receive the remaining doses of seasonal flu vaccine ordered earlier this year. "We are still early in the flu season," said Michele Fishburn, Director of Community Health Improvement for the Knox County Health Department. "There is still adequate time for individuals to receive a flu shot and for it to be effective; however, anyone who has specific health care concerns should contact their physician."
Individuals should continue to consciously practice preventative measures while waiting for both the seasonal and H1N1 flu shots to become available to them; cover your nose and mouth when coughing, clean your hands frequently, and contain spread of the flu virus by staying home when they are ill.
