Company: Plant Destroyed by Fire in Central IL
PRINCETON, Ill. (AP) -- Executives say a weekend fire destroyed a chemical plant in rural central Illinois.

A Sunday statement from Euclid Chemical says the blaze that started early Saturday and burned for much of the day couldn't be controlled. It calls the plant about 10 miles west of Princeton ``a total loss.''

The Cleveland, Ohio-based company adds the plant was closed when the blaze began and none of its 15 employees was hurt. Several firefighters battling the fire on Saturday were treated for smoke inhalation.

Some witnesses reported hearing explosions early Saturday. And smoke billowed from the plant for hours. Authorities closed area roads and residents miles away were told to stay inside.

The company says it's cooperating with authorities to pinpoint what caused the fire.
