Charges Dropped in IL, IN Shootings
JOLIET, Ill. (AP) -- Prosecutors have formally dropped the first degree murder charge filed against a small town police officer who'd been accused of shootings along the Illinois-Indiana border that killed on man and wounded two others.

Brian Dorian walked into a Joliet courthouse Wednesday already a free man after his release the night before.

The 37 year old officer showed little emotion at a 5 minute hearing where a judge dismissed the charge. Wearing a dress shirt and tie, Dorian looked tired but relaxed before the judge.

That's in contrast to his hearing less than 24 hours before where he pleaded not guilty. He appeared via video link grim faced, handcuffed and wearing orange jail clothes.

Dorian didn't speak Wednesday. His friend and fellow Lynwood police officer, Tim Smith, says Dorian is upset but happy to be free. Smith adds Dorian will be scarred for life by the ordeal.
