Giannoulias Touts Poll Numbers
(IRN)-The Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate says he's fighting to win a close race. State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias says his poll numbers show he is doing well.

Asked how he could be an independent senator for the people of Illinois, Giannoulias said that if he disagrees with someone he will let them know.

"As I've said if I disagree with Senator Durbin, if I disagree with Senator Harry Reid, if I disagree with the president, I'm gonna speak my mind. I've always done it," Giannoulias told reporters while he greeted commuters at a Chicago train station.

Giannoulias says he got into politics because he has always believed in public service. He says politics is a great avenue for public service.

Giannoulias is running against U.S. Representative Mark S. Kirk, who sees a close race but who also expects to win.
