State Farm: October is Dangerous for Teen Drivers
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) -- State Farm says an analysis shows October remains the most dangerous month for teen drivers.

On average, almost 10 percent of accidents involving 16- and 17-year-old drivers occur in October. That compares with just 7 percent in July -- the month with the fewest claims involving teens.

Those figures come from a 2007-to-2009 analysis of State Farm claims.

In Illinois, more teen-driving accidents occur in winter months. But the Bloomington-based insurer says for most other states, October is among the top three for teen accidents.

State Farm notes that by October, teens have returned to school and many drive to sports or other after-school activities.

The company timed the analysis for national Teen Driver Safety Week, which starts on Monday.
