IL Receives $13M to Expand Drug Treatment
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- Illinois will receive a $13.1 million grant to allow expanded options for more than 7,000 people seeking treatment for drug and alcohol dependency.

The Department of Human Services will receive the federal "Access to Recovery" money and recruit additional service providers for four more years.

Access to Recovery is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. It began in 2004.

It provides money to cover vouchers for patients seeking individual treatment -- including at faith- and community-based agencies.

The Human Services Department will also team up with the Illinois National Guard to connect returning service members with all available recovery programs.

The grant has helped 15,000 people in Illinois since it started. The new money will aid 7,600 more.
