Hospitalized Farmer Gets Help From Friends, Family
HAVANA, Ill. (AP) -- A central Illinois farmer is really learning the meaning of community.

Three weeks ago when Jay Frye was working in his fields, he felt severe pain which left him unable to work.

He was diagnosed with an extreme case of pancreatitis, meaning the Easton farmer has to remain hospitalized for some time.

The timing, during harvest, couldn't have been worse. Frye has nearly 3,000 acres of corn and soybeans.

So a group of almost 80 family members and friends lent a hand on Thursday. They showed up with 18 combines and 30 semitrailers.

Frye's wife, Noreen, says harvest normally takes six weeks, but the group got most of the job done in under five hours.

Both Jay and Noreen say they're overwhelmed by the response.
