City to Buy Property for Transit System
The Galesburg City Council Monday night will consider purchasing a piece of property the city says it wants in order to create a bigger bus garage.

Aldermen Monday evening will consider purchasing land at the northwest corner of Monmouth Boulevard and Harding Streets, for the price of $127,000.

City officials say once the property is purchased, they'll go forward with the design and building of a new garage for the Galesburg Transit bus system. They say the owner of the property currently, George Voeller, accepted the city's offer for the property.

The entire project is being paid for with grant funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation. The City has been awarded $1.7 million in grants for the project.

Aldermen will also hold a budget work session on the proposed 2011 property tax levy. The regular city council meeting will be held at 6:30 pm Monday inside council chambers at Galesburg City Hall.
