Brady Promises to Give Up Real Estate Business if Elected
State Senator Bill Brady says if he's elected governor, that will be his only job.

Brady, the Republican candidate for governor, owns a real estate development company in Bloomington. There are some other stakeholders, both within and outside his family. He says he'll step away from that business if he's governor.

"The governor of the state of Illinois has to focus fully, and we have a plan to divest my day to day and operational activities in the business so that there is no conflict," Brady says.

Brady says any proceeds of the company that accrue to him will be "held in abeyance," or set aside until he's through as governor.

Governor Pat Quinn isn't satisfied, noting that Brady allowed the press only a glimpse of his tax documents, and lieutenant governor nominee Jason Plummer hasn't released his income tax forms at all, both citing the proprietary concerns of their businesses. Quinn says the public should be allowed to see Brady's audited financial statements.

Quinn hasn't performed any outside work since he was elected lieutenant governor in 2002. He had a law practice before then, and some clients paid him in years subsequent to his election, but Quinn says the work was performed before he was elected.
