Red Carpet Series a Success
A series of performances at Galesburg's Orpheum Theatre once declared canceled by some, but officially on hiatus by the theatre, came back to life this year and did better than the year before.

That's according to theatre president Kate Francis, who told the Knox County Civic Center Authority Board Wednesday both attendance and revenue for the "Red Carpet Series" were far higher than 2009.

Francis says given the current economy, those increases could say any of a number of things.

"Our attendance success and our revenue success has been drawn primarily from within Galesburg, now what does that mean, does that mean people aren't going outside of here to spend their entertainment dollars, are they recognizing the Orpheum as a destination they do want to go to that might bare some more exploration."

Francis says two-thirds of the attendance for the Red Carpet Series came from residents within Galesburg. But an anomaly was the final show, the Glen Miller Orchestra performance, where a majority of attendees were from outside the city.

Overall, attendance for everything at the theatre this year is up over last year.
